Revelation 16:8-11 (ESV)
The fourth and fifth bowls of God’s wrath bring a scorching of the earth and darkness that results in gnawing pain for the unrepentant. These events were prophesied in the Old Testament and corroborated by Jesus. We learn the importance of responding quickly and with sincerity to the conviction of God, because the opposite of repentance is what takes place in the hearts of these unbelievers, and it leads to eternal anguish.
